Bourges Marais
The marshes of Bourges, a 135-hectare stretch of water to the east of the historic centre, form a landscape that is unique in France. Discovered as early as the 8th century, these market gardens intertwined with canals reveal a living heritage, at the crossroads of history and nature in the Berry region.
Between the cultivated plots and the freshwater furrows, the marshes blend harmoniously into the urban fabric of Bourges. Just a ten-minute walk from Saint-Etienne’s cathedral, this labyrinth of vegetation offers a striking contrast between the medieval streets and the vastness of the traditional crops, where each plot tells the story of an ancestral know-how.
