Maupas Castle

This privately-owned château, inhabited by the family of the Marquis de Maupas, contains memorabilia of the Duchesse de Berry and her son, the Comte de Chambord. The château is famous for its collection, unique in France, of almost 1,000 earthenware plates adorning the main staircase.

During your visit, you can discover and taste the estate’s AOC Menetou-Salon wine. The vines and winery are on the hillside across the road, Sauvignon for the whites, Pinot Noir for the reds. The park was restored in the 20th century by Fernand Rolin, landscape architect for the city of Bourges. A shaded driveway leads to the Cour d’Honneur, with access to the formal flowerbeds. From this terrace, you’ll enjoy a superb view of the surrounding countryside and the Pays Fort landscape.
