Émile Chénon Museum

The MEC (Musée Émile Chénon) is a museum of archaeology housed in a former dwelling dating from the 15th century, listed as a Monument Historique. This architectural jewel and its medieval-style garden provide an ideal setting for the museum’s collections. From the 19th century to 2018, numerous excavations have uncovered Gallic and Gallo-Roman remains in Châteaumeillant.
Inaugurated in 1963 and restored in 2015, the MEC offers a fun, modern tour of its mysterious “amphora cellars”, its imposing Gallic wall and its sumptuous Gallo-Roman treasure trove, including 4 exceptional objects found at the bottom of a well in 2012. A major cultural season featuring events, workshops and exhibitions enhances the value of these collections.
